Music for the Soul

The Master Belzebuub has talked about the spiritual value of certain types of music, especially the works of Beethoven which carry such beautiful harmonies. I want to share one of my favorite pieces by Beethoven, which is the Choral Fantasy in C minor for piano, orchestra and chorus. It is very similar to his 9th symphony and has a singing melody which sounds a lot like the 'Ode to Joy' from that symphony, so the choral fantasy is like a miniature 9th in some ways.

Here is a great, free recording from a German site for a Choir called Chor der Uni Witten/Herdecke:

I hope people can take 21 minutes to sit back, relax and listen to this entire piece with their eyes closed and really feel the power of this work which has so many dimensions to it.

All the best,

-Noah

I thought I would take the

I thought I would take the 21 minutes or so, and it was soul-stirring. I was uplifted and inspired. But! As often happens, technical difficulties plagued the link. It would keep hiccuping.

But I tried YouTube and got Daniel Barenboim and the Berliner Philharmoniker and Deutschen Staatsopern Chorus. The C minor Choral Fantasy all played out in two short videos.

The soul says thank you!

Divine Music for the Soul...

Divine Music for the Soul... Thanks so much for the Beethoven link. It's curious how Classical Music can blossom the superior emotions like flowers and vanish the inferior emotions like smoke. I'd like to share a link to listen Midsummer Night's Dream by Mendelssohn.

Another day, another link -

Another day, another link - all right! Maybe we could start an endless blog, where somebody could put up a favorite link each day.

That was the exciting music of the Fairies and the Midsummer's Night's characters, possibly reflecting something about the Maria nature as well.

Mendelssohn was one of the most amazing people, a genius who if anyone has, seemed to incarnate on this planet one of the higher angels.

Hey Noah, thanks for the

Hey Noah, thanks for the suggestion, I've never heard it, will make 21 minutes today and listen to it :)

Ahoy! Frankly, I know

Ahoy!

Frankly, I know absolutely nothing about classical music, but I thought I will give it a go. For the first couple of minutes I found it difficult to fully focus on the music, but soon I started really enjoying it. In the end, I must admit that 21minutes was not long enough!

Noah, your blog has greatly helped me to remain in self-observation today. Thankyou.

Great feedback, I'm happy

Great feedback, I'm happy this could be an uplifting note for people. The last minute of this piece reminds me of a chorus at the end of a Mozart opera, and if anyone would like another musical suggestion I highly recommend Ingmar Bergman's film of Mozart's Magic Flute.

Hi,

I definitily liked this piece of music and listened to it carefully. I don't think I've heard it before. Thanks.

Actually I'm going to a Live orchestra play this afternoon, this'll be my first time and I'm really looking forward to it. They're going to play Tchaikovsky 4th sympony, Schuberts Rosamunde and truly one of my favotite pieces Chopins piano concerto nr. 2.

regards Karim.

Would be great if more

Helena H's picture

Would be great if more people share more inspiring classical music links. Yes, the Midsummer's Night is the music of the Fairies from Pre-Raphaelite Art. What higher angel did Mendelssohn incarnate??
